Last week, BERKMAN was honored with four prestigious awards at the 2009 Edward L. Bernays Awards Ceremony, held each year in San Diego by the San Diego Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The awards our firm received this year are a true demonstration of our excellence in the PR profession and dedication to our valued clients.

The San Diego Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) hosted its annual Edward L. Bernays Awards at a ceremony last Thursday, Sept. 17 at the magnificent Loews Coronado Bay Resort on the bay. Sixty awards were presented, recognizing the industry’s finest public relations tactics, campaigns and professionals here in America’s Finest City. The Edward L. Bernays awards are given annually to recognize outstanding achievements in categories, including media relations, community relations, reputation management, crisis communications and special events.

We were excited to take home four Bernays Awards this year in the following categories:

  • Issues Management – Award of Excellence – How to Get Out of Beer Prison on behalf of Hospitality Inc.
  • Media Relations – Business to Business – Award of Merit – Luce Forward, San Diego’s oldest and largest law firm.
  • Creative Tactics – Award of Merit – ASUPMATOMA, a non-profit organization based in Cabo San Lucas dedicated to the protection of Southern Baja’s endangered sea turtles.
  • Press Conferences – Award of Merit – Solar Power International 2008, on behalf of SANYO North America, a leading provider of Energy- and Environment-related products and solutions.

Our highest honor of the evening was receiving a Silver Bernays Award of Excellence in the Issues Management category on behalf of our client, Hospitality Inc., for How to Get Out of Beer Prison, a campaign to help fight the ban of alcoholic beverages from San Diego’s beaches. Jack Berkman personally led the efforts to successfully pass an addendum to Proposition D (the voter-approved 2008 San Diego beaches and parks alcohol ban) giving private San Diego events new guidelines for hosting special events, while eliminating chain-link beer prisons. This notable example showcases our firm’s intimate understanding of issues management and the San Diego community.

It was an honor to be acknowledged for our professional excellence and hard work among our esteemed peers, including numerous well-respected public relations professionals in San Diego. Thanks to all of our outstanding clients for the opportunity to deliver such excellent work on their behalf.
